Give a brief info about your venture wildsherpas? What are the thoughts behind this unique name?
Wild sherpas is an adventure program that includes trek and camping located in Yellapetty, Munnar. The name wild sherpas are conceived from a group of people living in the Himalayas, known for their mountaineering skills.
How did you discover your passion for camping and trekking?
Born and brought up in Munnar, have always been connected to nature and was always keen on exploring the places around Munnar. Coupled with my interest in starting a venture related to tourism, I started Wild sherpas adventure.
Over the years many places which offer camping facilities have come up. What is the unique thing you offer to your campers?
We have come up with two camping sites, one at Yelappetty and the other at Gap Road, Munnar. The one at Yellapetty has been operational for more than 5 years, while the one at gap road is yet to be operational. The unique thing offered at wild sherpas is the trekking and camping experience customers get in one of the serene places in Munnar. Our location is almost 7000 feet above sea level and has an amazing view, which is best described in pictures than words. The service we provide at our place differentiates us from others. Even though we are in a very remote location subject to transportation issues, we have taken utmost care to provide all services to customers, with good toilet facilities, food, and other basic amenities. Our camp is designed and maintained in a way to host bachelors and also families.
How has the pandemic affected your business? Do you see a surge in
domestic travelers?
The pandemic has definitely affected our business if there are any restrictions from the government’s side. Otherwise, business is as usual. The trend for adventure camping has picked up among domestic travelers.
What are different activities conducted in your camping sites? Activities include:-
Trek to the camp
Campfire
Sunrise trek
Trek back to pick up point
Events are also held on certain dates, which includes live music
Who are your customers? Do you get more group bookings or single
travelers?
We get all sorts of customers, from couples, families, bachelor friends, and also groups.
How are you leveraging social media to reach your customers?
Instagram and google is our primary channel in reaching out to potential customers.
What’s the biggest misconception people have about you? Why do they have that? What’s the reality?
People sometimes find it difficult to come out of their comfort zone, as they are comfortable with cozy well-built rooms, where you don’t get to see what you have in a place like ours. Trekking and camping are believed to be tough
tasks, which is not the case though. Our camp is also completely secure.
Tell us about your team and how did you meet each other?
We are a team of 4 partners and a Chief Camp Manager. All of us are college friends. We also have a dedicated team of trek guides, cooks, and caretakers.
